Ethical Issues in Management- Hiring

“A manager’s most important responsibility is to bring good people into the organization and then manage in a way that makes those good people want to stay” (Treviño and Nelson, 2007). As a manger, you undergo some scrutiny in which employees you choose to recruit or hire into the organization you represent. There will be moral and ethical issues one must face as a manager. The employees who work under you define you as a manager.

Moral & Ethical Issues

As a manager, it is up to you to make the best possible choices in your employees that can utilize his or her skills and talents to bring the highest level of profit for the organization. In addition, it is the job of a manager to help all of the employees achieve his or her personal goals, proficiency and financial growth (Zayas-Quiñones, 2006). There is a variety of ethical issues a manager could face. A few possibilities could be hiring friends or family, or hiring a person who comes with bad recommendations. Moral issues are also a big part of a manger’s position. Moral issues are issues that entail a difference of principle and not a matter of preference to the organization. A good example of this would be a religious employee who refuses to work on a Sunday because it is a Sabbath day to them. Although you as a manager cannot be biased, you have to find a way to come up with a solution to this issue.

Social responsibility involves considering the impact of your decisions and being accountable for the effects that actions might have on society (Larson, Jensen and Carroll, 2001).
