Welcome to the Best Western Stevens Inn here in Carlsbad, New Mexico. I have put this exciting tour together so that people like you and I can share experiences and learn together the geological wonders of ground water features, coastal features, and volcanic activity. We could just learn about these in a typical class room setting, however, traveling and seeing these features first hand will not only bring a visual experience to our learning but also a lifetime experience of travel and exposure to two different cultures. I have chosen two destinations for our tour. Carlsbad Caverns, which we will tour tomorrow, and Japan. In Japan, we will visit the coastline on the eastern shoreline facing the Pacific Ocean and hike part of the trail on Mount Fuji. The exciting part of this itinerary is that we will not only get to see and experience the geological features we will learn of, but we will get to taste the culture and meet the diversity of natives in these two regions of the world.

This evening, as you enjoy the southwestern cuisine and hospitality from the staff here at the hotel, we will present to you the geological information regarding our tour for tomorrow of the ground water features. I chose Carlsbad Caverns as it is distinctly different than the region we will be visiting in Japan and the birth of this area is quite interesting as well as uniquely different.

Tomorrow, as we drive through the desert and tour Carlsbad Caverns, do reflect on the information presented to you this evening.
