Decisions in Paradise Paper, Part I

The south pacific island of Kava has the means to become a real-life paradise.   Unfortunately, spans of natural disasters have left this island in devastation and an unstable economy. The islands’ population consists of a majority of youth, which reports show that nearly 50% of the civilians in Kava are under the age of 15. The young people of this island are in need of housing as well as better education to create more opportunities for them and their future. A learning facility for children and teens would benefit the families residing in Kava. The Red Cross can offer the civilians of Kava an educational environment in a time of hardship. This educational plan will provide Kava civilians with tutors, translators, qualified teachers, management and technical programs, and more importantly, a facility.

Organizational and Environmental Obstacles

-Construction

The economy of Kava solely depends on its recourses of petroleum, agriculture, and day labor. With a new facility in the making, our organization will help boost the economy of Kava by creating employment opportunities for the day laborers of Kava and using other resources that are also available, thus saving money by not having to hire expensive firms. The construction timeline for everything to be ready will take about ten to twelve months.    

-Advertising and Competition

As of today, there are no relief organizations in Kava that offer the services as the Red Cross offers.

The cost of advertising is very affordable because Kava is fairly new to the concept of commercial advertising.   The options available are radio and newspaper advertisements, commercials, flyers, brochures, and special promotions.   Each option is viable for the local community; however, the best results would be obtained if during the initial stages of construction the commercials and flyers were circulated.   This would be efficient because the demographics of Kava are primarily...
