What do you do or say, if anything, in each of these situations, and why?

1. A colleague, an amateur pilot, shows up at a critical meeting with some Japanese executives wearing a tie adorned with pictures of a P51D Mustang escorting a B-29 Superfortress (the Mustang is a World War II fighter and the Superfortress is the type of plane that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan at the end of World War II).

He is not showing good ethical standards and etiquette. His behavior and moral principles will be grossly exhibited. Even though etiquette will not include a judgment of whether or not his action are consisted good or bad, right or wrong. It’s his proper etiquette in society that shows no respect for the Japanese culture. Showing little respect for the Japanese heritage and ordeal they were inflicted by the United State has no places in open society.

2. You know that you have only $110 left before you hit the limit on your credit card, and you have $8 in your wallet. You are the host to three clients. One has just announced that he is considering the lobster dinner for $40. The other two clients nod their heads.

First, I would not take clients to lunch with such a low balance in my wallet or credit card. I would discretely ask my manager to accompany us making sure he has funds available or ask to use a company business credit card. If you have no options and this is a make or break deal there are little signals you can provide that may steer a customer decision on what to order. A subtle suggestion to your clients is to mention what is good on the menu. By doing so, you can redirect them to the cheap items on the menu. This method helps give you better control of your expense when time to pay the bill
