Personal Statement

In my life I have experienced pain, tears, downfall, laughs, fun, triumph, and success. My life has been full of both fairytales and dreams. I have come up from a childhood of poverty, constant moving, no father figure, and endless struggle. But not once have I ever let my past hold me back. From day one; at the age where I realized life was not promised, and everything that I did in life mattered. I was sure to always grow to be the best, not second best, and never last.

I am one that takes advantage of every opportunity thrown my way. And I never fall short when I set my mind to it. Since elementary school I have done Black Heritage Bowls, appeared on the news, and all over the papers. I have received nothing but all A’s and B’s and I have always remained number one of my class, later graduating as Salutatorian of my eighth grade class.

To me education is everything, and the more of it you have the better off you will be in the future.

Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself.

I have never taken education for granted, but it’s not as easy as people try to make it seem. School is difficult, challenging, and hard work. It’s not something you can play with, or mess up and come back to later. I learned that when I entered high school sophomore year at Bronzeville Scholastic Institute after leaving a very easy year at Bowen’s New Millennium School Of Health. It was extremely stressful, I no longer was getting all A’s in fact that was the first time I had went to summer school. And guess for what subject? The easiest one yet…GYM!! It wasn’t that I disliked it or didn’t participate; it was because I lacked getting dressed enough. During my first three years of high school my grades moved from up to down, from high to low.
