Decisions in Paradise

Time Warner Cable is a communication giant with customers in 43 of the 50 states in the United States. The United States communications market is vast and thus Time Warner Cable has a large amount of competition from other communications company such as: AT&T, Dish Network, DirecTV, and a host of smaller cable companies. The leaders of Time Warner Cable have been looking for ways to expand the company’s footprint outside of the United States borders. The island of Keva is largely by technology and communications business. Keva officials have been courting American businesses with the goal of improving Keva’s economy. Time Warner Cable has decided to expand its communication and technology business to Keva.

Keva is a South Pacific island and not very developed. Half of Keva’s inhabitants are children. The language is a local dialect and incorporates a blend of English, Spanish, and French. The economy is dependent on natural resources such as: petroleum, natural gas, fishing, coffee, cocoa, spices, and bananas. Keva also has a supply of inexpensive but quality labor. The lack of technology development makes Keva a prime location for Time Warner Cable to expand their technology and communications business because there is no competition. Time Warner Cable would be the first multi-service technology and communications business to operate in Keva. This also gives Keva an additional economic resource to help improve the island. The availability of inexpensive, quality labor could supply Time Warner Cable with a workforce to service the community at a cost-saving compared to workforce overhead costs in the United States.

Keva is not without an abundance of problems. The location of the island makes Keva a regular and prime target for a variety of natural disasters. The island experiences regular storms that have produced tsunamis, hurricanes, typhoons, tornadoes, and floods. These...
