Alicia & Montford Case Study

Concerning the case study chosen, Alicia and Montford are two small children who are six and seven years old. They have so many problems that they are dealing with which raises major concern for so many involved. According to the case study, they are living in a homeless shelter with their parents, and they have to move by the end of the month. Both children are struggling in school where they are not performing at grade level. However, this brings so much concern to their teacher and principle that they will not pass the state test that is coming up. They also cannot get along with their peers or fellow children in their class. It appears that both children need to be motivated and have guidance and a support system.

Problems & Goals:

It is clear that Alicia and Montford have experienced problem after problem with no real resolutions. As a helper, it is our responsibilities to speak with the parent and undergo a plan development for both children. “Plan development is a process that includes setting goals, deciding on objectives, and determining specific interventions (McClam & Woodward, 2012, p. 111).”

Problem/Goal #1:

They are living in a homeless shelter with their parents, and they have to move out of the shelter. Their problem-solving strategy would be to find the parents assistance through a housing agency or HUD program. The goal is to get them in a house that they can call home.

Problem/Goal #2:

Neither, Alicia or Montford is doing well in school they are both performing below grade level. Montford never does his classwork or turn in his homework assignment. Their problem-solving strategy would be to find them someone who cares and is willing to help both children. The goal here is to provide them both with a tutor that can help them advance more in class and improve their grades.
