Introduction

This assignment deals with the role persuasive texts plays in advertisements and brochures by identifying the target audience and the impact it has on reader to entice them to scrutinise the information provided to them.

Question 1

1.1. The target group of this advert are women, females and girls, it is evident that mainly women or girls use sunscreen that has a shimmery contribution to it and by the caption “Mothers lock away your sons” and the by line “Tropitone Body Beautiful. Sun protection that shimmers”.

1.2. The claim that is made by the advertising product is that it not only keeps your body beautiful with a layer of shimmer is that it also protections you from the sun.

1.3. The reasons why this heading would fall under the noncommitment zone is as follows:

Some readers may have a belief or existing attitude that they already have a sun screen that they are using and they are not interested in buying another brand of sunscreen, for instance social identity function. Dependent on the reader’s attitude and attitude towards sunscreen would determine the reader’s noncommitment zone. Other readers might feel this product is only for beautiful women or girls and they might not like the fact of this specific sunscreen provides your body a shimmery effect.
