Jan Sunwai

To make the State administration more people-friendly, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched a Jan Sunwai programme from the hub of the State Administration, Mantralaya in Bhopal, right down to the lowest level field offices. Under the programme, the government officials are available every Tuesday to take complaints and applications from the people and redress their grievances as quickly as possible. This has set off a chain reaction in which every government department and office is obliged to hear out people and settle their problems on the spot if possible.

The Jan Sunwai initiative has tried to bridge the gap between administration and local people and has lead to redressal of their genuine grievances and problems. It provides a platform for the local to list out their grievances relating to Public Distribution System, Mid Day Meal, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, NREGS, law and order and seek redressal from the host of important district and sub-divisional.

The Jan Sunwai is a powerful instrument to look into and provide instant relief to the people by initiating prompt action in a time bound manner. This program is a big success throughout the state of Madhya Pradesh and it is primarily because of the staunch and unflinching support of the district administration.

Observations and recommendations:

Observations:

• Poor turnout of people in the Jan Sunwai at SP office of Burhanpur.

• Of the few cases that turned-up, they were immediately addressed.

Recommendations:

• There should be proper promotion of this program so that more people are aware and are able to participate.

• There should be an audit of the complete process which should be reported to the District Collector.

• The complete system should be made online so that people can track the progress of their grievances.
