Last Christmas, I was given three little blue boxes. Each one was meticulously wrapped with a thick, silky white ribbon that completed the look of classiness. Even before I looked at the name on the box, it was obvious where it was from; Tiffany & Co (Tiffany’s). This little blue box has become famous and recognizable for being the perfect gift and occasionally, the perfect way to tie two people together. Originated from the United States, Tiffany’s has become a global sensation because of its marketing techniques and the simplicity of its designs, appealing to people of all cultures.

On September 18, 1837, Tiffany and Young opened its doors for the first time in New York City. It quickly became a popular store to shop at for “stationery and fancy goods” (http://www.tiffany.com/About/Timeline.aspx). The store gained recognition for its utmost quality in silverware. Soon after sales began, Tiffany and Young used a distinctive shade of blue in boxes, bags, and advertisements in order to symbolize its reputation for quality, craftsmanship, and luxury. Because of its quick growth and success, the company was renamed to Tiffany and Co, better known as Tiffany’s, and from then on, global expansion was envisioned. With simplicity and elegance, designs by Tiffany’s became popular and appreciated throughout the globe within two centuries. Today, the website of the company prompts you to choose from 17 and “other countries” to enter the site. From this alone, we can conclude that Tiffany’s has been successful in its goal of global expansion. But what exactly made Tiffany’s so appealing to the other countries? Design alone could not have been so appealing as to have this blue be recognizable worldwide. With the help of good marketing teams and exclusive designers, Tiffany’s is now the most famous jeweler in the world (http://www.ultimate-engagement-ring-guide.com/Jewelry-Designers-For-Engagement-Rings.html).
