OCBC is a bank centered on people, Bloomberg Markets magazine announced OCBC as the world’s strongest bank (Shukla-Pandey, 2012). After reading the article on OCBC, I would have to agree that they do have a unique approach to talent management and development. The fact is OCBC takes training and development serious and is the key to help to build the capabilities of employees to deliver superior performance. Learning is part of the Bank’s ongoing business strategy and it helps to create a win-win situation, for the company as well as the staff. OCBC believes in aligning employees learning objectives with their business goals they can help employees build a career not just a job. OCBC created the Bank’s ‘Career Best’ program, launched in 2002. This program involves helping employees evaluate their strengths and career orientation, and finding the best fit between their talents and OCBC’s need (Shukla-Pandey, 2012). OCBC not only offered classroom training, but eLearing and virtual classrooms, which allowed them to reach out to employees in different geographies. Underscoring our commitment to training, we have created the OCBC Learning Academy and also dedicated an entire floor at the OCBC Centre, called The Learning Space @ OCBC, for the sole purpose of learning and development (Shukla-Pandey, 2012). Basically, what OCBC does is help employees develop their strengths and weaknesses. The area that employees are most strong in they can build on, and the areas in which they are weaker they help to make stronger. By doing so it allows employees to tap into strengths and ideas that they did not realize that they were capable of, it also helps them to develop all of their skills.
