Cross-Cultural Perspectives

McDonald’s has become the fastest growing fast food chain in the world. Ray Kroc was the one who founded them in California in 1955. The chain pride itself on their burgers and mouth-watering fries. McDonald’s has also always been known for their rapid service and its drive-thru. The company started with only one location, to locations all over the country and then all over the world, making them a global sensation. McDonald’s currently has more than 30,000 stores in over 100 countries around the world. McDonald’s earns billions of dollars each year however remain in the global sector (McDonald’s, 2011).

McDonald’s decided to open their first restaurant in Japan in 1971 (McDonald’s, 2011). There were some issues in the beginning because of the vast differences in their culture compared to ours that were worked out. The issues were how food is prepared, food organization, and how the product would be delivered. McDonalds runs it business very differently than it is done in Japan, but they were still able to come to a place so that they could run their stores there.

The Japanese are known for preparing meals at home. There were other faults in the what they did like the way it is designed, and the way food was handled are also crucial. According to Megan ",Obentos are boxed lunches Japanese mothers make for their nursery school children. Japanese has a code for food preparation; the lunches are intricately arranged and have cultural order and meaning" (2009). The meaning behind the way this particular meal was arranged is mimicking that the world design precisely, and Japanese are responsible for carrying out this tradition.
