Kudler Fine Foods is a business that operates in California selling gourmet food and wine products. There are three locations; La Jolla, Del Mar and Encinitas. The management of Kudler Fine Foods has come to the firm because they want to efficiently integrate technology into the day-to-day business operations of Kudler. By integrating technology, the management is hoping that the business needs will be better met and the accounting operations will be improved.

Key Business and Accounting Information

After looking over Kudler’s key business and accounting information, there are several areas that could use some improvement. For example, in each of the three stores the three department managers take care of the purchase orders from start to finish. The managers do all consult with each other to see if there are items that they can order a larger amount to cut costs. Kathy Kudler, founder of Kudler Fine Foods, also makes purchases; mainly purchases that are required by only one store. Another issue with the current purchases is how the forms are delivered to the suppliers; either by mail, supplier salesman, or email, if applicable.

Kudler’s current information technology to store their customers’ purchases is a point-of-sale system. This means that each register at the check-outs record different date: such as the “items, quantities, prices, taxes and totals for all daily sales transactions” (Apollo, Inc., 2005). Also, the company currently uses a database that includes nine tables in order to keep track of all their business needs and accounting information. For example, “The Order Table is used to record information pertinent to each Order placed with a given store” (Apollo Group, Inc, 2005). However, after looking over the network as a whole, there are actually three different networks; one for each store....
