Introduction

The following plan will outline Learning Team A’s training plan for WorldCom. The training plan will increase the effectiveness of teams and groups by discussing challenges and benefits of group and team communication, collaboration, and conflict. Furthermore, the following plan will address how the program works, how it would help WorldCom succeed, and what unique challenges the plan addresses.

Teams and Groups

WorldCom’s training plan for the customer service teams will increase individual’s awareness of how to increase the effectiveness of group and team work. The training will be five days in duration. On the final day, the employees will complete a comprehensive final assessment of the previous days of training. The first day will consist of learning the difference between teams and groups and the advantages and challenges of team and group collaboration. According to Robbins (2007), a work group is a “group that interacts primarily to share information to make decisions to help each group member perform within his or her area of responsibility.” A work team is a “group whose individual efforts result in a performance that is greater than the sum of the individual inputs.” In order to increase team effectiveness, each team includes no more than 10 team members with diverse backgrounds (Robbins, 2007). A discussion on the importance of a diverse team or group demography will occur as well. Group demography includes a diverse group of individuals of different sex, race, education level and length of service. Group demography is important because it allows different personality types to balance and complement each other by using their strengths in full, and compensating for each other’s weaknesses.
