Amazon.com, Incorporated is an American electronic commerce company with headquarters in Seattle, Washington. It was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos and originally was incorporated under the name Cadabra.com. In 1995, Mr. Bezos launched his company under the name Amazon.com. He chose this name this name because he envisioned his online company being the largest in the world just like the Amazon River is the largest river in the world (Byers). Amazon.com started off as an online bookstore. It was sued in 1997 by Barnes and Noble for claiming it was the worlds largest book store in which Barnes and Noble says was false. It was settled out of court.

In 1998 Amazon.com opened a DVD/Video store. Amazon product lines include several media (books, DVDs, music CDs, software, videotapes, and software), apparel, baby products, consumer electronics, beauty products, gourmet food, groceries, health and personal-care items, industrial & scientific supplies, kitchen items, jewelry and watches, lawn and garden items, musical instruments, sporting goods, tools, automotive items and toys & games. Amazon also sells certain low-end products like USB cables under its in house brand Amazon Basics. In 2007 it entered the e-book industry with the release of the Kindle reader. In that same year they launched Endless.com, which is a shoe and handbag website. In 2009 acquired Zappos.com which is the web’s most popular shoe store. There are websites in other countries like France, Canada, Germany, Italy and Spain to name a few and offers international shipping as well.

E-commerce has changed the landscape of logistics because it affects the way we shop now.
