The NFL and the Fake Image it Portrays

The National Football League can be seen almost anywhere in the world. Teams and players alike can be seen on all types of advertising from billboard to television. Examining a commercial from the 2014 Superbowl entitled “Together we make football”, opinions will be made how the NFL views itself in a positive light. Though the NFL helps the community and tries to inform the public of wrong behavior, the NFL does not represent a clean image they show in commercials.

The television commercial being examined is titled, “Together we make Football”. The commercial was aired on television during the 2014 Superbowl, to show how the NFL and its fans make football and how it shapes their everyday lives. It consists of multiple different characters doing everyday things from working on a roof, to driving a cab, or just getting home from a practice and finding out you just got accepted to college. Also in the advertisement is the use of some NFL players who show looks of determination, excitement and at peace. The NFL portrays itself as a giver of hope to fans who root for their teams. It also seems to show through the use of football students can make their way to college. A summary of the commercial would show that the NFL and football help people do the right thing in life.

The National Football League might try to shed the positives of its organization, but the reality is that the NFL had many issues and one of the greatest is the amount of players with arrests. In a span of less than five months, 27 players in the NFL were arrested in the year 2013 (Manfred, 2013). Examples of some the arrests are D.U.I., assault, assisting arrest, drug possession and battery charges. The most notable arrest during this time frame, was that of New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez, who was arrested on homicide charges.
