REFLECTIVE ESSAY 2

1. What insights have you gained from the previous week’s activities to include lessons, briefings, discussions, exercises, study groups and independent work?

One thing that certainly peeked my interest was the lesson covering team building. Learning how the four lenses play a major role in the process will help me better form a team within my work center. I can tie both lessons together and understand some of the reason to why some pass missions we had failed. My personality I can actually see myself and how I fit into the creator role. Each team role and personality I can pinpoint in my shop as of now. I learned we cannot have only creators and executors we need advancers in order to push the next stage of a project. I know I will implement what I have learned after graduation to my work center. There are also stages within team development, forming storming, norming, performing, adjourning then transforming. I will not get into the definition of each but this all ties into what I want to implement when back home.

The Managerial Communications activity was an interesting change of pace. I realized that I get nervous when I’m being evaluated or judged on performance. Once I start the speech the nervousness is over but when I could not remember a point or my transition I was a little nervous again. The times I practiced in front of the class, I never got that nervous, because I just spoke naturally and knew I was not being graded. I learned having too many notes can throw me off my point and I started to go off track. In the case of the evaluation, I knew exactly when I was going, that decreased the nervousness a bit this is the main reason I like to go in the beginning, 2nd or 3rd. All in all there are some things I have to work on but throughout this course I feel will make a better speaker, supervisor, and leader in the long run.
