What do you think the real problem was in this case?

The problem in this case was that Nick, as a project manager, was having difficulties managing the project knowing that he wasn’t able to handle all the aspects of the project. Another thing, the top management assigned someone who doesn’t have enough experience as a project manager yet they still pushed it through even though they have a very big project on hand and cannot risk any failures.

Does the case present a realistic scenario? Why or why not?

In our opinion, it is quite far from reality that these scenarios could happen. knowing that the company is big enough to be located at Silicon Valley, and that the project is very important that it could decipher the human genome and has potential for future revenues, yet the top management still chose someone who wasn’t skilled enough when it comes to management as a project manager. Projects similar with nick Carson’s case requires attention and every aspect of the project should not be taken for granted.

Was nick Carson a good project manager? Why or why not?

As stated in the case study, it was obvious that nick Carson was not a good project manager. Yes, he's got the skills and characteristics like being energetic and intelligent, but that doesn’t mean that he's a good project manager already. He never provided the management with what a project manager should've done. He should have taken all the steps properly in order to manage the tasks right on time.
