Homeschool education is a growing trend among families within the United States. This option is chosen for many different reasons. While it may not be viewed as normal in terms of education it can become a viable option for anyone who is willing and able to invest in the future of their children. According to a study done in the early 2000s, there are over one million children homeschooled in the United States (Lips, 2008). This number has risen dramatically over the past ten years to a staggering 2.4 million children being home schooled (Ray, 2011).Homeschooling offers many benefits to students and their families and may result in many of the same opportunities afforded to children with traditional education.

Homeschooling can offer educational experiences that differ from the traditional classroom. David Kolb created a learning style model that helps people understand that each person has different learning styles. These learning styles are classified in this model as watching, feeling, thinking, or doing (Kamarulzaman, 2012). Home education offers the ability to adapt to the individual learning style of each student. The adaptation of these needs can be done in a variety of ways to meet the needs of each child. Classroom adaptation, curriculum adaptation and teaching adaptation are several of these ways. Many families choose home education because of gifted children and the fact that they are not being challenged in the public school setting or they may have children with disabilities who suffer in the same setting. Having such freedoms with this type of education means that each individual child’s needs are met daily. If one student requires more in depth teaching then this is an optimal opportunity to do so without fear of embarrassment or reprisal....
