PROCEDURE:
PRE OPERATION
The patient will be given standard pre-operative blood and urine tests at some time prior to surgery. Before the operation, the physician or nurse will explain the procedure, the type of anesthesia to be used, and, in some cases, the need for a temporary drain to be inserted. Instruct the patient not to eat 8 hours prior to surgery. Take vital signs.
INTRA OPERATION
Verify patient's identity. Take initial vital signs. Remove all jewelries and dentures of patient. Change patient's soiled clothes to OR gown. Place the patient to the OR table.
Anesthesia Used
Regional anesthesia/SAB(Sub Arachnoid
Positioning
The patient is placed in a supine position
Skin preparation
This is done by the circulating nurse after the anesthesia is being administered. Antiseptic technique is used in the skin of the operative site
• Wear sterile gloves
• Scrub the skin of the patient using enough pressure and friction starting from incision site with a circular motion over widening circles to the periphery.
• Discard sponge after reaching periphery
• Repeat scrub with a separate sponge for each round
• Paint incision area and periphery with solution
Draping
Covering the patient and surrounding areas with a sterile barrier to create and maintain an adequate sterile field during operation exposing only the incision site. The purpose of draping is to eliminate the passage of microorganisms between non sterile and sterile areas
• Place a sterile towel up to the scrotum
• Place an upper towel down to iliac crest
• Place a 2 lateral towel
