Alabama after the Oil Spill

An oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010 leaked oil that “British Petroleum” (BP) needed help in containing it. As the cleanup dragged along; it affected wildlife on and off the water as well as business on and off the water too. The sea life is the greatest worry at this time, wondering how much has and will continue to be affected as time goes by.

I believe this to be a moral issue because it is a creation made by people. It would never have been there unless someone put it there. At least not in that one spot where the oil rig “Deepwater Horizon” exploded. Humans have created these issues, humans build these parts, humans build these rigs, and society wants this oil so they can live their lives the way they think they deserve, never looking at what the cost will be if something should happen. Humans have abused this land, allowing this horrible possibility to happen. When the rig “Deepwater Horizon” exploded, passing the blame out freely to those who did not survive, passing blame to other companies whose materials may have been some of the cause, passing the blame all the way to the head of the “British Petroleum Company.”

Even thought burning the oil off the water, using chemical dispersants, and washing animals that had oil on them, the work is not done. Many university biologists and Marine scientists have been sent out to find how the area is faring after the catastrophe. Many scientists are out searching the sea floor. Looking at the life and collecting samples of the floor, bringing them back to see what can be done to help sea living creatures.

As the coast contains life, and with the disaster of the BP spill, many businesses here in Alabama have been hurt. Anyone who fishes or shrimps for a living in Alabama knows this feeling of loss. The economy has not...
