Position Sensors Market Analysis, Market Size, Application

Analysis, Regional Outlook, Competitive Strategies and

Forecasts, 2015 To 2020

Position sensors are used to measure angular or linear position with reference to a fixed point or

to an arbitrary reference. They help measure distance or change in position, i.e. displacement,

and can also help detect the presence or absence of an object, i.e. proximity. Information gleaned

from position sensor readings can be processed with an external circuit to control processes,

monitor physical conditions, and count events among others. Combining the information with

time measurements allows the calculation of speed, velocity and acceleration for motion control.

Growing adoption of position sensors in the aerospace industry is expected to be the key driving

force for the market. The advent of wireless technology is one of the key industry trends in North

American and European economies. Increasing demand from Asia Pacific and Rest of the World

regions is expected to drive the global market, which can be attributed to rising industrialization

in these regional markets. There has been a steady transition from contact to non-contact position

sensing. This is a result of the advantages offered by non-contact sensing which include lesser

wear and tear, reduced risk of particulate contamination and disruptive magnetic field

interaction, as well as ease of integration into non-serviceable locations.

Non-contact position sensors conduct measurement without any physical contact. The primary

advantages of these devices are the absence of mechanical parts with boost reliability and

contribute to long functional life. They include photoelectric, magnetic, capacitive,...
