Nike Inc.: Developing an Effective public relations Strategy

1) What can Nike’s Corporate Responsibility team do to improve Nike’s public image?

Nike can improve its public image by developing a stronger Code of conduct for the subcontractors as well as a more reliable Manufacturing Environment-Safety-Health Management.

The company can also strictly forbid the work for children, by fighting against the government in several countries in Asia.

Nike can also lunch an advertising which is denouncing all the bad practices in these countries by showing the changes that they have made.

The company can refund a part of their profits to the town where they relocate, whit an obligation to create schools for the children from the workers.

- Nike has tired almost everything, yet has been unable to shake its negative image.

- Publicizing subcontractors that have been dropped because of their inappropriate practices might help demonstrate Nike’s commitment to factory workers

- Of course, by dropping a subcontractor Nike would be responsible for putting many Asian workers out of Job.

- Perhaps instead of continuing to dwell on the Asian factory issue, a campaign should be launched showing Nike’s corporate

2) Why have Nike’s attempts to date to address its critics been unsuccessful? Or have they?

Most of their attempts were not credible because they bought too many athletes, stars in the past. Now when they try to change the simply brings ir image through a famous personality, most people think that they have paid the personality to say something what is not specially his thought. The people make more and more their own image and believe less the Medias.

- Nike’s bottom line has not yet been seriously affected and one might construe that as a limited success in Nike’s handling of issue.
