People make decisions on daily basis, not only in the workplace, but at home as well. We may not realize it, but making decisions involves thinking; a lot of thinking. With thinking being such a big part of our lives, how much time do we spend on improving our thinking skills? There are many different ways to think, and the manner in which we think plays a large part of the final decision made. In order to become better thinkers, we need to understand the importance of the way in which we think. We also need to understand the impact of how we think on our decisions.

Everyone is born different; no two people are exactly the same. This also includes the ways in which people think. Many times, two people working to solve the same problem will arrive at two very different conclusions. This is not necessarily a bad thing, though. In the workplace different ways of thinking have the opportunity to increase efficiency and effectiveness. For this to happen, though, coworkers will have to learn how to adapt to and work with everyone’s unique manner of thinking. By understanding different personalities and thinking styles we can reduce conflict, improve communication, and increase productivity (Merging, 2006).

As an example, I am going to solve an issue that occurs in my place of work using several different methods of thinking. The thinking styles that I am going to use to solve the problem are pragmatist, analytical, and persuasive.

I work for JLG Industries, the worldwide leader in the production of aerial work platforms and material handlers. One of the main reasons we are a global leader is because of our superior quality.
