1. LDTD hires two types of individuals to work at the factory. Unskilled workers, and skilled workers. Unskilled workers take up a higher percentage of the workforce, but are easy and quick to fill such positions. Skilled workers on the other hand, require more searching and recruiting. LDTD and all companies in this industry used to rely on apprenticeship programs in the province to provide them with skilled and experienced workers. This was initially successful for LDTD, but proving to be a non-existent option as the number of students applying into such programs has decreased dramatically.

The firm is currently using traditional methods of recruiting. These methods include word-of-mouth, and newspaper ads which are proving innovative in today’s technological world. Laurie Dickson, has created a relationship with the local Technical College. Having a relationship is a good aspect, but majority of time shouldn’t be focused on potential individuals coming out of such programs, because the company is dedicated to finding qualified applicants.

LDTD, has also spent little funds and time on such recruiting practices due to the size of their firm. This is proving to be a very hindering factor, since in today’s economy recruiting, selecting and training requires a huge financial proportion of the company’s fund. Especially with such industry increasing. Laurie Dickson has at least acknowledged that he needs to put more money towards such business aspect. He is will to pay more than the base salary for the position. This should be a successful method for the company, as salary and pay is a priority for individuals.

All methods were traditionally successful, for the previous industry and the smaller size of the company. Due to these drastic industry changes, fast changes need to be made.
