Disaster Recovery Plan Assignment

Today I will be speaking about DRP’s (Disaster Recovery Plans). In business today having such a plan in place is crucial; it can even be the difference maker in whether the company survives in the long run. I will be touching on the key elements with a DRP, methods of testing, and lastly the importance of testing. My goal is to show the importance and give good reason to implement a DRP immediately if one is not already in place.
The Purpose
Having access to company data and resources and network uptime is crucial in business today. The purpose of a disaster recovery plan here is to provide very detailed steps and procedures for departments within a company, usually the IT (Information Technology) department, to follow to ensure that data is recovered and the network is available in a certain amount of time so that the business or organization is completely operational. The longer than down time the worse effect it can have on the organization. So having a very detailed and proper DRP is extremely important.
The Key Elements
When talking about a DRP there is a lot of planning involved. In this planning there are certain key elements that have to be addressed so that if a disaster does occur DRP can move into action very smoothly. Having these key elements will help ensure that your DRP is ready to face disaster that just hit your organization:
▪ Keeping all computers and servers running. Computers and the services that run on them are a very crucial part of business today. Getting all computers back up and running should be a major priority.
▪ Keeping or maintaining all service-level agreements, both formal and informal, with customers and suppliers. For example if UPS had a disaster within their company they still have an agreement with their customers that the mail will be delivered as promised. Keeping this agreement is very...
