I also work for a non-profit organization and so does Selena…. The company I work for provides care for individuals with mental disabilities. I loved the direction you took this discussion, (a profit based company to a needs based company.) This is what I derived from your notes and input. Please let me know what you think.

Question 4 (Week 1 discussion)

4. How would you implement a program like the CIP in your current job (or a job you have had in the past)? Provide specific evidence of the kinds of opportunities you would introduce and what the likely reaction of your fellow employees would be.

Within the framework of a sales driven corporation, employees may find themselves treated differently by the varied levels of management who are more concerned with the bottom line than the needs of their employees. With all members of our group having worked or currently working for a non-profit organization, transitioning from a corporate business structure to a non-profit institute has revealed a vast difference in what it means to be “compassionate”.

By utilizing a non-profit environment and day to day interaction with individuals with needs, we would first begin the program with a two week internship followed by a week of volunteering in the community. Each manager would experience the day to day functions of the non-profit agency by having them work as a receptionist. Through this experience the managers will hear the stories of these individuals seeking help. The goal of this experience will allow the managers to be placed in a situation that would open up their compassionate side for individuals that may be seeking help.

Volunteering would allow the managers to give back to the community by helping a family or individual in need.  Also through this experience the goal would be to have the manager learn not only compassion for individuals in need, but open their way of thinking on a new and more open level.
