SUBJECT: Rules Need To Be Created

The Willie dilemma you provided us was a great story to show us as students real world work problems that can frequently occur in a job setting. At my first job a friend of mine (who was also an employee) entered a contest they were holding to create a new logo for the company. 1st place received $500, 2nd $250 and lastly 3rd $100. My friends design took 2nd but never received the money. I helped him think of ways he could try to get the money from the company and I used what I learned with that experience to provide my group with ideas for Willies dilemma at his work.

When my group met everyone had already read over the dilemma several times which helped us to be able to dive right into possible solutions to give to Willie and solutions for the suggestion board. These are our 3 options,

* Go tell Willie right away

* Suggest to Willie that he should get an attorney to fight his case

* Tell the suggestion committee that they need to create rules with Abe present so that this cannot happen in the future

What we all thought we should do is go tell Willie right away so that if Abe make the committee come out with a decision and its not his and its something that will save the company less money than his idea he will understand why. The next idea we came up with is more of a suggestion, which is that the committee should propose rules to Abe so that at the next committee meeting the judges have guidelines to follow and employees will know these. Abe the boss would also be involved in creating these rules so that in the future he should not have any problems with who the committee chooses to be awarded the money they are saving the company.
