How to write an introduction
The introduction begins by introducing the reader to relevant literature. This is important so that the reader understands the question you are researching, why the question is being asked, and why it is worth asking. Since it is written in paragraph form, the introduction should include a (general) topic sentence, which will introduce the topic of your report rather than just that specific paragraph.
What would the paragraphs consist of?
|General/Broad |Introduce the topic and indicate what is generally known about it. This may also include the main |
| |concepts that you will be investigating e.g. food contamination, microbiology. |
| |Review current literature on the topic and be more specific to your topic e.g. The conditions |
| |affecting microbial growth (temperature, moisture, pH) in relation to food. |
| |Finally finish with an aim under its own heading. |
