FREE DIVING

A. INTRO

Purpose: to inform my audience about free diving, when its was discovered, and what it's uses are for it today.

A. Introduction

i. I'd like to try something with you all, on my mark I would like everyone to hold their breath and try to hold it as long as possible this will be timed so try you best and no cheating

ii. Did you know that the world record for the longest time someone was able to hold their breath is 11 min and 35 sec. A record held by Stephane Misfud from France.

iii. Free diving is a sport that require special skills, one of them is having the ability to hold your breath for long periods of time without the use of any special equipment.

B. BODY

A. History

i. free diving dates back as far as 500 B.C. In Ancient Greece divers would weigh themselves down and descent to depths of 100 ft to pluck sponges from the sea bottom. That were used later for bathing.

ii. In Japan and Korea female divers known as AMAS’ would collect edible seaweeds shells and other underwater valuables.

iii. Free diving as a sport is believed to have been introduces to the U.S. In the 1930s when a surfer from California travel to the pacific islands And witness the act. Their equipment was very rustic the used garden hoses and wooden spears.

B. Science

i. It seems pretty unbelievable that a human being can hold their breath for 11 min. But u can actually train yourself to do it.

ii. A French physiologist Paul Bert conducted research and observed that Ducks had the amazing ability of slowing their heart rate when forced to stay underwater. Scientist later discovered that by simply holding ur breath triggers the diving affect. Which the body uses to conserve oxygen.

iii. Thus ur pulse slows and blood is redirected to its most important organs the heart and the Brian.

iv. But that's only have of the equation u might ask yourself how is it possible your body and withstand all that pressure when diving to...
