Anti-Choice Activists- the Real Murderers

Fiona was almost 20 weeks pregnant when doctors discovered inoperable foetal heart tumours. She was told she could proceed with the pregnancy, but the foetus would die before or shortly after birth. Not having an abortion, for Fiona and her husband, was inconceivably cruel. They knew they were doing the right thing, but the anti-choice campaigners hassling Fiona outside the abortion clinic had no idea what this foetus, and Fiona for that matter, were going through. Fiona knew she was right in having an abortion, but that didn’t stop the anti-choicers, the do-gooders, from having their say and causing Fiona to have an emotional breakdown.

Studies undertaken internationally since the 1960’s consistently show that most women who have

had an abortion don’t suffer psychological or emotional trauma from the abortion procedure itself, but from the stigma associated with it from society. The study “We Women Decide” by Better Health, found that the most significant cause of emotional distress for women is from the delivery of abortion services, including restrictive and sometimes punishing legislation, which places women and their doctors in a confusing legal shadow. Interestingly enough, 87% of Australian women, 18 to 49 years old, are in ‘strong agreement’ that women have the right to choose (australia.jrn.msu.edu), indicating that it is the very small minority – 13% to be exact - of our female population who feel it is necessary to dictate what we do with our bodies.

It’s also interesting to watch how Parliament sets up ‘specialist’ panels to nut out the specifics of abortion laws and what they should contain, whilst the people who make up this panel of ‘experts’ are the small minority, 13% it was, of anti-choice female activists who have never even undergone an abortion themselves. What’s more is that the other half of this panel is male politicians who conform to whatever the loudest voice is because they think this will win them votes. Well I can tell them...
