The Government should control people's life online

With the different types of mass media coming into existence, we get not only the convenient way of communication, education and entertainment, but also the control over our lives. Our personal information, uploaded files and private messages can be used by surrounding people, swindlers and even hackers, and the government is not an exception.

It is important to indicate that the government should not control our lives. First of all, every individual has a constitutional right to privacy that should not be neglected. There is now a question whether the right to privacy can co-exist with the capabilities of agencies to analyse and access merely every detail of an individual's life. The government and various international organizations (e.g. NATO, CIA etc.) undermine this right by means of global surveillance. Moreover, the government should not use our personal information to its benefit or use it to put those who have other political points of view under the persecution. In other words, it should not violate our right to freedom of speech. We should not be arrested or accused of treason just because of the information we put on the Internet.

On the other hand, the government should be aware of everything happening in the country and around the globe. Personal discussions and viewpoints can characterize the political situation and the attitudes of people. Furthermore, controlling citizen’s lives online can reveal reasons and ground of the official displeasure and can identify the ways to change this situation for the better.

All in all, controlling people’s lives online has merits for the government, for example, awareness of the political situation. But concerning the citizens such a policy has only disadvantages, because no one wants to be controlled and watched.
