Business research is important to business owners and managers. This allows you to better understand your market or even manage the company with the knowledge that will keep you ahead of competition. In this essay I talk about the different types of research and the steps it takes to accurately get to the conclusion. Formal research and business research should be known by all managers to give the company the advantage that many companies do not have.

Formal research is defined as scientific research rather than based on hearsay or personal in nature. Scientific research is based on experiments which are controlled and reliable and can achieve the same results if repeated. Formal research is usually conducted in a laboratory or a place for learning and is normally published in research journals. The process for formal research involves purposiveness, rigor, testability, replicability, precision and confidence, objectivity generalizability, and parsimony. Purposiveness in research means to have a well thought of problem, which brings us to the type of research, rigar is the precision of the information gathered about the problem. Being able to test the data collected to determine if the hypothesis developed for the study should be rejected or confirmed from the findings. This information gathered and tested must also have replicability to be considered formal research. The findings should have similar results when conducted and different times or within a different organization. . Precision is how close the information gathered is to reality and the confidence (the likelihood that the findings are correct) to say that the probability of the results will be true most of the time.
