Question

When working in teams, is trust assumed or do team members have to earn trust?

To me it’s a little bit of both. On a team people assumes trust within each individual to be able to produce witch ever work assigned or delegated to each individual. Between each individual on the team, trust has to be earned as for on a personal level.

Trust In a Team

Interpersonal trust is trust between two team members, trust between a leader and subordinate. The two fundamentals dimension that loses or gain trust within a group is honesty and benevolence according to, (McCutheon and Stewart 2000). Honesty is the notion that the other party is trustful, creditable and dependable (Ring and Van de Ven1992). Benevolence is the idea that one person within a group or group will not behave opportunistically or take advantage of another, even when they may be in a position to do so (Ring and Van de Ven 1992). These two aspects are an important part of keeping or losing trust within the group. Other ways to break down and gain trust within a group is through good or bad communication skills, loyalty to yourself and each team members, and having a closed or opened mind. All of these things play apart in gaining and losing trust within a team (group).
