Term Definition How It Is Used in Health Care

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is certainly an important piece of legislation, and it has a direct impact on how health care organizations create and maintain health information. HIPAA plays a major role in the health care environment because without it all people's medical records will be visible for everyone to see. Health care facilities should really take this law serious because there is a major penalty for violation.

Electronic medical record An electronic record of health-related information on an individual that can be created, gathered, managed, and consulted by authorized clinicians and staff within one healthcare organization. It speeds up the healthcare reports along with eliminating errors on a daily basis. EMR stores all medical information electronically instead of using papers. This also increase work efficiency by inputting all the information electronically which makes it faster to locate versus going through files manually.

Electronic health record An electronic record of health-related information on an individual that conforms to nationally recognized interoperability standards and that can be created, managed, and consulted by authorized

clinicians and staff across more than one healthcare organization. With having the ability of using EHR the health care workers can count of more accurate results and convenience of patient care. EHR is also able to generate patient forms versus going over the paper charts to figure out the results.
