Lucent Technologies is a thriving manufacturing company that has thousands of customers, non-private company’s and public businesses, including foreign government manufacturers. This company creates and drop ships the systems, manufactured materials that will drive communication networks for the new millennium. “The company produces three types of software: Integrated Network Solution (INS), Mobility Solutions (MS) and Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS)”. INS relates to software for voice messaging and data and optical networking management. MS involves wireless radio access hardware and software. LWS offers warranties and support to all of the company’s that they sell to.

After reviewing the financial statement it seems that the company had a small loss of .9% in revenue between 2003 and 2004. Do to the dwindling economy the company shows a decrease. The decrease shows a drop in funds on hand and a drop in funds from an earlier period. This company also show a 4.7% decrease in cash flow in 2004 relative to the prior year from reduced accounts payable, short term debt and other current assets. Most of the assets lost in 2003 were 31%; in 2004 the total loss was 26.3%. From the analysis, it seems that Lucent has been showing more care and thought in its spending habits and giving less exposure to long short term debt, as shown by a decrease in total liabilities of 13.1% down from 121.2% in 2003 to 108.1% in 2004, these spending reductions have been in pension liabilities, post-retirement benefits and other liabilities, simply because of the trends prevalent in the overall economic downside. These categorical reductions would not be a deterrent for the potential investor. Simply put, Lucent has shown a tremendous lag in purchasing power from 2001 through 2003.
