Lasallians held up by gunmen

Beverly Engcoy BSED-2, Sarah Mae Engcoy BSCS-4, Kristoffer Ned Misa BSCS-3, and Roniel Tabar BSIT-3 were held up by 2 unidentified gunmen on November 4, 2010, around 7:45 P.M. at the Ledesma Street, corner Valconcha Street, Ozamiz City.

According to Sarah Mae Engcoy, they were walking along the Ledesma St. when a get-a-way vehicle blocked their way. Two suspicious men who were riding the vehicle accosted them right a way. One covered his face with his white t-shirt while the driver wore a colored-tshirt.

“I was traumatized and felt nervous when one of the men suddenly stepped down from the vehicle and forcefully asked for our wallets and cellphones. I was speechless but Misa firmly answered that we do not have cellphone,” she confessed.

Having heard of that statement, the gunman quickly pointed a 45-caliber pistol to Misa’s head and grabbed the bags of the victims. Three cellphones, Acer laptop and its charger and speaker, flashdrives, umbrella, cap, lunch box, mp3 player, personal belongings, and some notebooks were taken from the victimized students. The criminals threatened the victims to quickly leave the area.

Shocked and taken aback, the students immediately left the place and went straight along Valconcha St. While walking fast, they heard a bang coming from the area where the incident happened. “I think the gunman shot the cemented wall of the heritage campus and hurriedly departed the place,” Sarah said.

Such an incident brought realizations to the victims. “Strolling around the streets of Valconcha and Ledesma is not really safe during night time. No matter how many you are, the robbers, if they plan to rob, they would really do,” Kristoffer Ned said.

“I should never pass the streets again during evening,” Roniel exclaimed. “ I think a light bulb should be installed on the heritage campus facing the corner of Valconcha St. and Ledesma St. because the place is really too dark at...
