Cultural geography.

In the course, we covered quite a number of topics ranging from landmasses, weather, climates, mass wasting and much more. Additionally, we covered earth processes, occurrences and why such features of earth surface are the way they are present day. However, some topics where not brushed through on the course. Cultural geography is one of the wide educative are that wasn’t tackled. It is a branch of human geography which points on the interactions of human customs both non material and material regarding the natural environment and the area of human organization. Cultural geography consists of three distinct branches. That is, the new culture, traditional culture and the more representational geography. Traditional geography is based on cultures and societies. It’s believed that landscapes are associated with the origins of human culture and societies. Human interactions in between human societies and human cultures create cultural landscape. Drawing closely to the British custom studies, pointing on social theories and empirical methods, geographers came up with a so-called new custom geography, traditional and the more representational geography. Turning from determinism of environment and the area customs of the geography and pointing on the aspects of customs, American Geographer (Sauer) came up with a study on this topic. Inspired by an interest in the processes of history and reasons together with other German geographers like Eduard Ratzel who was termed as the 1st geographer to come up with the term Culturgeographie, a concept eloped. These and other reasons led to the strain of custom geography where tradition was an agent, space was the medium and custom landscape the outcome of human activities. As a result, geographers believed that through time, customs transforms and influences space. Custom was thus referred as the cause of origins of some landscapes.
