Our world is in some serious trouble if we continue polluting at the current rate – global warming will be the doom of Earth. For the sake of life on this earth as we know it and the health of future generations, changes must be made. According to Greenpeace (2010), the world is hotter now than it has been in 2,000 years and if we continue at this pace it will be hotter by the end of the century than it has been in two million years! The use of fossil fuels is mostly to blame (about 80% according to Greenpeace, 2010) for global warming. Oil, coal, and gas releases carbon dioxide (along with other harmful toxins) into the water and air (Greenpeace, 2010). Because of the fossil fuels that have already been consumed a certain amount of warming is inescapable, but with the right changes the warming can be controlled (Greenpeace, 2010). Pollution from coal alone kills over 24,000 people a year and the oil spill in the gulf this past year will continue to cause damage for decades (Greenpeace, 2010). What changes can be made? Plenty. Wind, solar, and geothermal resources can provide over 90% of all our energy demands (Greenpeace, 2010). Not to mention the millions of jobs nation-wide that would be created (Greenpeace, 2010). Contrary to many politicians’ statements, our economy would boom and America would be back on top of the world. So what’s stopping us?

Global warming is no longer just a scientific notion; it is an honest and fast approaching threat. If nothing is done, we as citizens of the world are consciously choosing to destroy our planet for future generations. Is this a moral matter? Yes! Companies (even entire countries) are already making the effort to reduce (or eliminate) the use of fossil fuels. This choice has a significant impact on the financials of an entity. The cost of switching from the use of fossil fuel to a renewable resource (i.e. solar panels) is huge. The people that have made that choice are not seeing it as a cost; it is an investment...
