Diversity in the classrooms

Charter schools basis is that racial and economic diversity is an important value in education, and that traditional public schools have greatly been unsuccessful in achieving this goal.

Location:

The location will increase the opportunities the school will have of appealing to a diverse student population by picking an area that is accessible to parents of different income, cultures, religions and economic status.

Recruitment:

The majority of charter schools recruit by targeting underrepresented communities to create racially and economically diverse student bodies.

Admissions:

Charter schools are open to ALL children and they are committed to serving a student body that reflects the local community. If a charter school receives more students than it has seats available, it is required by law to hold a lottery to determine which students will have the opportunity to attend. Many charter schools have wait lists and will admit students from the waitlist as spots become available.

School Culture:

Charter schools embrace the value of community, classroom practices and staff trainings to ensure that students receive quality education and that all cultures and backgrounds are respected.

What interests’ the student matters. Their interest is important not only for the happiness of students, but also for their learning and career path.

A parent shared with me that she struggled motivating her son to build a model of a Frank Lloyd Wright home for a presentation.
