The Sperm and the Egg

This will deal with the origin of the Sperm and the Egg from formation to conception and in between. It will also show how the function of the male and female internal parts works in conjunction with each other to create harmony in creation.

I am the sperm and I have traveled a long way to reach my mate, the egg. From the beginning of time I have been destined for this, to be joined with the one that has been predestined for me. Out of the 400,000 eggs there is one that I will be mated with. I am the germ cell of the male. The egg, my mate has been developing in the ova just for this special event. There have been at least 400 of them developing in the ova and yet the one that has been destined for me will be released during this month’s ovulation. [ (Rathus, S.P., Nevid, J.S., & Fichner-Rathus, L.F., 2005) ] The eggs life has always been the ovary but at the perfect time she will be released into the fallopian tube. Because she is so small it will take her at least 2 weeks to move down this four inch tube with the help of cilia which are miniscule hair like structures that will push her down at a rate of one inch per day. This is where I will meet my mate!

My life as a sperm starts in a man’s testicle. There is a process called spermatogenesis which involves a cyclic phase of 72 days. This is how long it has taken to create me. I have a chromosome which will be joined with the Eggs chromosome and will determine the sex of the baby that we will create together. Egg has an X chromosome, and I have either an X or a Y chromosome. The embryo will be determined by this later on in its development.
