Case in Point Analysis

Throughout the chapters in Environment the reader will find case in point analysis. The case in point analysis consists of four main points. The points are indentifying unintended consequences, describing scientific and technological activities, discussing proper application of scientific methods, and addressing alternative solutions. These four points will help explain the species richness in Lake Victoria from the case in point found in chapter three.

Species Richness in Lake Victoria

Case in point research helps humans better understand how and what affects an environment. The case in point of the species richness in Lake Victoria will be researched and explained to better understand what is currently happening in this environment. The four points mentioned will help in the research of what is occurring in the environment, how it is affected, and how it can be resolved; if there is some kind of resolution (Rave, 2010).

Identify

In order to help the environment in Lake Victoria, researchers must identify what is affecting the environment. Researchers must review if there are any unintended consequences such as activities from humankind that have led to these environmental problems. The aquatic community in Lake Victoria is altered from what it was 50 years ago. Unintended consequences have affected half of the cichlids and other fish species in the lake are now extinct due to these consequences (Raven, 2010).

The results of these consequences have resulted in the disappearance of the majority of the algae-eating cichlids and the population of the algal population increased massively. When the algae die in the lake, the decomposing algae use the dissolved oxygen in the water that is used by other forms of life. At the current moment, the bottom part of the lake that was once filled with cichlids has now become an empty place for the lack and...
