transactions database, valuable data can tell us a lot about the Inn’s current

business situation.Using access tools data can be manipulated into

meaningful and interpretable information that can be used as an aid in decision

making by management.The reservations transactions database contains

various data such as the guest’s name, number of guests, the arrival date, the

departure date, the room type and the exact room.From the data given it was

necessary to add fields to calculate base Income and length of stay.

Questions and Solutions: 1. Describe what the database information reveals about the current business situation. The database contained information regarding revenues in the month of

December, and when manipulating the data to find the base income per

room, it revealed that revenues throughout all of the room are only

amounted to $6,134 for the month.This may be due to the out of date

“manual reservation and bookkeeping system,” being used, having the

problem that families have been double booked in the same room.

Overall the current business situation is not a positive one and it could

be better, if they are only generating roughly $6,000 per month that

amounts to less than $80,000 a year and that is not enough revenue for

a hotel to stay in operation.
