The Battle of Algiers/The Weather Underground

Within the movies “The Battle of Algiers” and “The Weather Underground” both, the Algerian FLN (The Battle of Algiers) and the Weather Underground (The Weathermen) turned to terrorism to try and achieve their political goals, the FLN was successful with achieving their goals while The Weather Underground was not. With that being said both were fighting for two different reasons. The Algerian FLN were fighting to break from the French oppression held against them while The Weather Underground was trying to form a revolution to overthrow the American government during the time of the Vietnam War. There were times where both groups used the same tactics and strategies and also times where their tactics and strategies differed. Both had their times of great success and also their times of great failure. The Algerian FLN had the greater part of success because they were able to achieve the goal that they were all in all striving for which was independence while The Weather Underground had their times of success but all in all failed to achieve the goal they were striving for. So even though both the Algerian FLN and The Weather Underground turned to terrorism in a way to achieve their goals, both situations had different outcomes at the end of the day.

In the “Battle of Algiers” it recreates the battle between the Algerian FLN and the French. The Algerian FLN used terrorism to try and break free from the French oppression held against them. It started with the formation of the FLN, which used a strategy of cells of people instead of one big mass group. One person would pick two others and so on. One person never knew more than three members at a time. All of this occurred in the Casbah, this area was used as the FLN’s base you could say.
