By studying about the different social, cultural and economical conditions that affect racial and ethnic minority groups in the United States has helped me to be more open minded to the different group’s norms. I now realize different aspects of each group and what makes then unique. It was more interesting learning that Native Americans are struggling because of the oversight of the Government. This truly opened my eyes and made me understand why they are still bitter today. I did learn that the African American population does in fact face fewer opportunities than what I had thought. I always felt that your determination is what brought you up in life and that you could achieve what you wanted to. After reviewing statistical data, I realize that the life chances are less that the average American. The official population estimates now indicate that the Asian population in the United States is growing rapidly. Reports show that 40.6 million people will identify themselves as Asian by 2050. That will be an increase in population of 162 percent. This trend tells me that the minority groups today will start closing the gap between each other. Immigration will continue to play a part in the growing population. These changes will definitely affect the face of the United States in several ways. The more immigration that we have the more our cultural make up changes. We will continue to see our fashion style changing as more cultures introduce different styles into our society as well as the way we eat. Our country can best prepare for these changes by educating our up coming generation on the different cultures, societies, and ethnic norms. I believe with a little preparation this change can be good.
