better known in China as “Master Kong”, was a thinker whose influence upon East Asian intellectual and social history is found to be immeasurable. He was also a political figure, educator and founder of the RuSchool of Chinese thought. He has been alternately idealized, deified, dismissed, vilified, and rehabilitated over the millennia by both Asian and non-Asian thinkers due to his culturally symbolic personae. His teachings, preserved in Analects, form the foundation on the education and comportment of the ideal man, how such a human being should live his life and interact with others, and the forms of society and government in which he should participate. Fung Yu-lan, one of the great 20th century authorities on the history of Chinese thought, compares Confucius’ influence in Chinese history with that of Socrates in the West (Riegel, 2012). The study of his teachings, Confucianism, has common shared characteristics with other Eastern religions, has had an influence on the modern world and the modern world as had an influence on Confucianism as well.

Common Shared Characteristics

The Eastern religions are a native to Asia. The Eastern religions can be separated into two major families: Indian religions and Taoist religions. Indian religions include: Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism. These are all closely associated with India. The Indian religions have a few traits in common, including an emphasis on personal duty and natural law, and many of these religions have strong tradition, along with a many prophets and gods.
