CheckPoint: Modern Challenges in Immigration

In this exercise I don’t have to imagine myself as if I was an individual that wanted to migrate to the United States. I migrated to the United States as a teenager after being born in Argentina and living in Italy and Spain. My thoughts were that, yes I did with a great amount of motivation want to migrate to the US and continue my studies and hobbies in a country which offered many opportunities. My opinion about the naturalization process is that while it was quite time consuming and costly, it was well worth it and like many other things in life quite inconvenient. As a naturalized citizen and a service member of this country I have to say that in this global war on terrorism it is imperative that not only this country but others begin to not favor certain kinds of immigrants but continue to improve background checking techniques. Citizenship preference should be given to the neediest applicant; priority should be given to those with clean records and positive motives. No preference should be given to the talented or oppressed. Wealthy individuals seeking citizenship should continue to go about the naturalization process in the same manner as the poorest applicants do. While the United States has many allies it should still not favor any one country in this process, it is very important that immigration offices and agencies continue to work towards a safer and freedom providing country like the United States.
