Abstract

Xerox is an organization that thrives on innovation and diversification. This paper discuses Xerox’s diversification strategy and some of the human resource processes required to ensure employment laws and guidelines are being followed. We conclude with a look at how hiring minorities and women has affected the Caucasian male race.

Human resource professionals can ensure that top organizational leaders encourage managers and employees to follow laws and guidelines in a number of ways. First, they can provide access to Title Seven of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex and religion. (Stewart & Brown, 2009) The human resource department should hold regular training sessions to make sure that leaders and employers are knowledgeable and compliant to the Civil Rights Act.

Education is also an important factor in ensuring compliance in the workplace. A corporation should require employees to sign off on discrimination training that they receive so it is easier for human resource professionals to hold employees accountable for their actions. In addition, creating a standard operating procedure manual outlining company guidelines gives employees something to refer to if they have questions whether an action is permitted or not.

Consistently addressing issues with noncompliance is also an important factor in discrimination avoidance. Human resource professionals should manage all questionable acts in the same manner. If one person willingly breaks a rule, he or she should be subject to disciplinary action. Failing to address issues as they happen can cause future legal problems for a corporation.
