Week 2 – Comparison/Contrast Paper (Draft): Which is the best Smartphone available; Apple’s iPhone 4 or Motorola’s Droid X?

I am majoring in Computer Information Systems and I would say I am mostly a right brain functioning person. I am married to a writer, who is purely a left brain person. Our phones are a good reflection of this. For the last year I’ve changed my phone 5 times and I’m looking to do it again. I’ve been encouraged, and not subtly, to switch over to the Apple culture due to the problems I’ve been having with my current phone. The iPhone 4 and the Droid X are currently the two top phones on my radar. The things I find important when choosing a phone is power, functionality, comfort, storage and reliability.

Let’s begin with the power. A 1GHz chip is in both phones, which is pretty fast for a Smartphone these days. The chips are not the same, so there may be some little differences in performance. Users of both phones have expressed excitement over how snappy and responsive the phones seem to be. Both Operating Systems feature multitasking and extensive app stores, although the iPhone 4 still has a much larger selection with over 200,000 apps to Android's 70,000. When comparing the iPhone 4 and Droid X, the question of which OS to choose simply comes down to personal choice.

Most of the physical features are easy to compare. In the left corner the iPhone 4 weighs in at 4.8 ounces and having dimensions of 4.5” H x 2.31” W x 0.37” D. At the unveiling, Apple said the iPhone 4 is the thinnest Smartphone in the world at .037 inches. To the right of us, weighing in at a whopping 5.44 ounces and having dimensions of 5.02” H x 2.58” W x 0.39” D, we have the Droid X.
