In the narrative poem the Odyssey by homer, the main character Odysseus is an example of a epic hero. Odysseus displays the qualities of leadership, smarts, bravery.

Odysseus show the traits of being smart because when he was captured by Cyclops, Odysseus and his men were in a cave Odysseus had to come up with a way of getting out of the cave and saving his men at the same time. For example Odysseus brought a very potent wine with him so he could get the Cyclops drunk. After the Cyclops was intoxicated Odysseus and his men heated a huge wooden branch and sharpen it, then they impaled it into the Cyclops’s eye to were it was sizzling. Before this happen and Odysseus and the Cyclops first meet, Odysseus told the Cyclops his name was no man. So later when the huge wooden branch was stuck in to the Cyclops eye and he cried out to the other Cyclops’s and the others Cyclops asked what was wrong, Cyclops said no man was attacking him, so they told him to get over it and left. The next example that odysseus is very smart is after the Cyclops was blinded Odysseus and his men were still trapped in the cave from a boulder that only the Cyclops could move he had to figure a way out so he decide him and his men would hide under the sheep and when Cyclops let them out to eat they would escape with them. Last but no least example that Odysseus is smart is during the Trojan war. Odysseus designed the key idea that won the war, the Trojan horse which was presented as a gift to his enemies but actually housed Odysseus and his men inside so when every one was asleep they broke out and burned troy down

Through out the story Odysseus show that he is a leader, example is when Odysseus and his men landed on the Cyclops’s land and they were held captive. Odysseus was a leader and got them out safely.
